Blues
CDs
A good Blues CD has a certain grit to it that cannot be fabricated by
just any musician in any studio. Often, the best blues recordings are
actually poor in their technical quality, with hisses and pops on the
audio. It’s also important to remember that the earliest blues
albums were recorded more economically than Classical music because the
constituent of blues musicians and supporters had considerably less resources.
Modern Blues CDs still have to capture the raw essence of the blues.
True blues
music is born out of a deep pain or feeling deep inside of
the performer. There are certain similarities to traditional Native American
songs and chants or hymns of the Far East. As technically proficient
as a musician may become, the feeling that is embodied by the blues must
be projected to the audience or the true connection that the listener
and performer share will not fully be present. Some of the better modern
blues recording artists include Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters, B.B. King,
John Lee Hooker, Buy Guy, Junior Wells, Skip
James, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin and Mississippi Jon Hurt.
Of course, the list continues, and many great blues musicians never receive
recognition or fame.
